Should I give my chickens bath? I may sound stupid but I was wondering how to guard chickens from parasites that hide inside or under their feathers... And I don't see any other option other than giving them a bath. Any idea?

I had the same problem. After much research my avian vet said to use ivermectin. Put 2 drops under ONE wing by joint and it will take care of the whole chicken.  You could also use that in your water for both intestinal and external parasites. If you need the dosage I will call her or look in my notes.  Good Luck

Oh! I forgot, yes you can give them baths.  My friend, shows her birds all over the Northest coast and some central states uses Adams flea-tick shampoo for dogs & cats for bathing her fowl and uses a hair dryer to dry them.  She also brushes  them before shows.  Hope this helps.

Thanks annemarie, I thought I would give myself a heads-up on these things.I would better start washing my silkies using that shampoo....

By the way, I was wondering how would we know if chickens are hit by pests? Will they act weird?

Their feathers will look disheveled (kind of hard on a silkie) and they may or may not scratch a lot, depends on kind of parasite.
