Do ducks sleep while floating on the water in a pond? I thought they sleep only on the land !!

at night they're more vulnerable to predators if they sleep on land so they sleep on hte water, usually away from the shore so racoons and coyotes and such can't get them.  During the day they come out and sun themselves and take naps on land because the critters that get them from land are for the most part nocturnal..other than dogs and such.  The birds that get them don't really hunt at night, eagles and such ..at least that's my experience.

How long do ducks sleep and why do ducks sleep with their bills tucked under their feathers?

Ducks..and other birds for that matter, tuck their bill under their wings to conserve heat.  Their bill doesn't have any feathers so they tuck it under their wing to keep warm, sort of like you putting your hands in your pocket.  This is also the reason that you sometimes see them stand on one leg and tucks the other one ..it's to conserve heat.  Ducks are nappers, they sleep a little, awake a litte, sleep some more..so through out the course of the day, they sleep a few hours.
