I have an outdoor area which has quite a bit of gravel in it. I was wondering if the rough surface would be a problem for the ducklings' feet? If yes, I need to take extra steps to prevent the ducklings to go into that area. How about letting my older ducks free-range in this area? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

it really depends on the gravel.  if its rounded and no sharp edges it should be fine, but if it's rough gravel, then when they walk on it they might scuff their feet or get little scratches which may make them prone to bumble foot.  I've seen the small little pea gravel used and they don't seem to mind.
