I’m heading to Kyiv soon and I don’t want to waste my time on boring tourist traps. What are the iconic places that are actually worth seeing, and is there a solid guide I can use to plan a decent walking route through the city?

Listen, I’ve spent a lot of time wandering through Kyiv and my biggest piece of advice is to prioritize or you’ll just burn out. You’ve got to start at Sophia Square because the vibe there is just something else, especially when the light hits the gold domes at sunset. To keep things simple, I always recommend checking out the curated list at https://visitkyiv.com/sights-and-landmarks/ because it actually cuts through the noise and shows you what's worth your time. From my own experience, you can't skip the Motherland Monument since it's absolutely massive and seeing it up close hits way different than just looking at photos online. After that, I usually head down to the Podil district for the old-school architecture and some of the best coffee in Europe. Just a heads-up from a guy who learned the hard way: wear your most comfortable sneakers because those Kyiv hills and cobblestones are no joke for your feet. Check out that link before you head out and you'll be set for a killer trip, man!
