Hello, You are Bidding on 6 Male, and 18 female Japanese Coturnix quail in the Italian coloring. Most of these are from Jumbo sized breeders (Coturnix Quail are considered Jumbo when the Males are at least 250g (8.8oz) and when the Females are at least 300g (10.58oz) I have added over 15 bloodlines to my quail over the last two years. Quails are mainly raised for their eggs and meat, and sometimes for pets. Coturnix Quail are very productive, as they mature and start laying eggs at 6 - 8 weeks of age, as compared with chickens, pheasants, partridges, turkeys, and other types of quail, which mature and start laying eggs at 6 months of age. Also, Coturnix Quail eggs hatch in 17 days as compared to 21 - 28 days for all those other species of Game-Birds. Even though a quail egg (10 - 12 grams) is about five times smaller than a chicken egg (60 grams), it lays a much bigger egg according to it's own size. An average chicken weighs 6.5 pounds, which equals about 2950 grams. An average quail weighs an average of 6 - 8 oz, which equals to about 200 grams. Therefore, a chicken egg weighs about 2 % of the chicken that laid it, but a quail egg weighs about 5½ % of the quail that laid it. Quail eggs are prized as a dietary and healing food. They are packed with many biologically active substances that we need to be healthy. They are also an abundant source of useful trace elements and vitamins. A quail egg's nutritional value is 3 - 4 times higher than a chicken egg. Quail eggs contain 13 % proteins, while chicken eggs contain 11 %. Also, quail eggs contain 140 mg of vitamin B1, while chicken eggs contain only 50 mg, and quail eggs contain twice as much vitamins A and B2 as chicken eggs. Quail eggs also provide five times more iron and potassium than chicken eggs. They are also richer in phosphorus and calcium. They are considered dietary due to their amazing content. Another benefit of quail eggs is that they don't have "bad" cholesterol LDL, but are rich in "good" cholesterol HDL, so even seniors can eat them. They can also help fight allergy symptoms due to their ovomucoid protein that is used in the production of some ant allergic drugs. For health benefits, you should eat 3 - 5 raw quail eggs each morning, after washing them in boiling water to create a strong immunity and improve metabolism. You will experience a lasting fit of energy and vigor. You don't have to worry about salmonella, as the body temperature of quail eggs is much higher than that of chickens. Quail eggs are also resistant to infections due to their increased content of lysozyme that kills harmful bacteria. After 3 - 4 months of regular consumption, you will see an improvement in your overall health. If children eat at least two quail eggs daily, they grow better and are far less likely to suffer from infectious diseases. Or you could eat quail eggs just for enjoyment, and prepare them any of the same ways as you prepare chicken eggs. There are also many recipes for pickled quail eggs. Quail meat is very delicious. I personally love it way more than chicken meat. It has a sweet taste to it. The only thing is that it is small, so you need one or two quail per person.
Since quail are small in size, they don't take up a lot of room. Adequate space for quail is 1 square foot per two birds. The cage should be 10 inches tall at the least. The floor of the cage could be either ground, concrete, wooden, or ½ inch wire mesh. You should feed quail Turkey or Game-Bird Starter that is sold in feed stores. This is their main food. You could give them grass during the summer, as it is very healthy for them, and they love it. During the Breeding / Laying season, you should give quail some source of calcium (grit or crushed egg shells from any type of bird). If you want to raise quail just for eating eggs, you could keep just females, but if you want to have fertile eggs, you should keep one male for every two or three females.
