Where do the ducks lay eggs? Do they lay eggs at the same place every day? I have heard that ducks hide their eggs. Any possible hints to identify where these eggs would be? And if I build a nest for them, will they come back to the same nesting place to lay eggs every year? Any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure ducks always return to the same nesting place every year. I remember a duck that returns to the front door of my warehouse every summer, where it always built a nest. And I believe ducks bury these eggs to keep them at the right temperature and moisture until they start to hatch.

Yes, I believe ducks do build the nest at the same place to a limited extent. I had banded few of my ducks last year and I saw some of them returned to the same place this year. But the others changed their location, don't know why? But I have read they change their location when they notice that the eggs keep disappearing so as to keep them safe from predators. I do have a fencing for them. No chances of any predators moving in. May be they relocation due to some other reason that i'm unaware of... And they don't bury these eggs very deep, just dig a shallow hole and cover them with hay or shavings or leaves or grass (whatever is available). As they lay more, they put another layer and this way they can hatch larger number in one go.... What an awesome creation of God... I simply love them.....

I did a research on this topic and this is what I found.....

"The most likely possibility is that a fox buries these eggs. Foxes are renowned for stealing eggs from birds and ducks and carrying them away from their mother's and burying them elsewhere so that they can come back for them later. Unfortunately, eggs are also one of a fox's favorite things to eat. The foxes will gently pick up the eggs with their mouth, carry it to a safe place, dig a hole, place the egg gently carefully inside and then come back later to eat it."

my ducks built a nest and laid their eggs in it..but ducks don't lay their eggs all at once, they lay one or two..then maybe the next day they'll lay another couple and then they sit on the eggs when they've gotten all their eggs laid..during this time quite often if the predators or snakes or anything else finds the nest they'll take the eggs..i fournd several broken eggs and their were still  4 left..the mother at that point had abandon the nest so i took the eggs..2 of them hatched..a 4th is going to hatch.  One of my other ducks just lays eggs all over the place..in the lake, on the edge..but she's young and inexperienced.  I've taken several of them and incubated them..one of them is almost ready to hatch..many of them weren't able to hatch because by the time i found them i had no idea how long they'd been there..some were under water and the lake is cold.  I'd say if you make a nest for them there is no guarantee they'll lay in it because they like to choose where they want their nest.  if they have success in their nest and predators don't find it then they'll go back the next year.
