I was googling to learn more about ducks and geese. And I found this wonderful site. I am new to this forum.

 

Can anyone tell me if ducks and geese could survive on a pond? Will ducks & geese cross-breed? Is it a problem for ducks & geese if my pond is filled with chlorinated water? And even if I put the ducks & geese together, will any one of them dominate the other and turn out to be aggressive?

Of course they'll survive on a pond.  I don't think the chlorination is a problem as long as it's not a ton, many people fill kiddie pools with tap water for them and that's chlorinated..Geese are far more aggressive than ducks, but i've seen both get along nicely..they don't travel together..it's more like they tolerate each other..outside of breeding season of course.  During breeding season, all bets are off..my darling ducks will turn on each other in a second and can get quite violent in fact with each other.

Of course, ducks and geese can live together. This should not be a problem, especially if ducks and geese have grown up together. They live fine as babies and separate into to their own groups as adults and ignore each other. Sometimes, geese will dominate on food though, so make available several feeders. I have been reading articles on this and read that Farmers usually include some geese in a group of ducks. The geese make so much of noise which makes them a very good guard and alarm system when the enitre duck/geese flock is in danger. Geese normally raise a very loud racket when they see a stranger entering, and geese often attack strangers by pinching with their bills and beating with their wings.

Idea of geese guarding ducks is splendid..... What breeds of geese will be less aggressive and less noisy? Any special starter diet for ducklings and gosslings? Are these ducks and geese disease prone? Will the entire flock get affected if one is stuck with any disease?
